 JOB SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, The Job Holder’s role will be crucial in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the company’s operations by conducting thorough reviews of business policies and procedures, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and best practices.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business Conduct internal audit & review; and report on the extent to which the internal policies & procedures; and relevant laws & regulations are complied with.
  • Design, implement and periodically review and provide recommendations on the Sacco overall risk management process.
  • Review the adequacy, design, and effectiveness of internal control systems.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Audit & Risk Committee on the status of Sacco risks and Outcome of internal audits, reviews, and investigations conducted
  • Prepare and implement Risk & Compliance Strategy
  • Establish and regularly update the Sacco risk register
  • Provide/prepare risk management/governance input for Sacco’s Strategic Plan preparation/review
  • Follow up the implementation of recommendations of external auditors
  • Investigate fraud & irregularities; and review fraud prevention measures which the Sacco has in place
  • Review internal business proposals and new major contracts involving third parties
  • Identify and communicate as necessary the industry developments and changes in the best practice for risk management and compliance
  • Monitor and document the security and safety of Sacco assets
  • Promote Sacco governance through participation in delegates and the board of directors’ election process
  • Prepare departmental budget
  • Set targets and conduct performance appraisal for Risk & Compliance Officer

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE                                                                                                  

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Accounting, and Economics & Management;
  • Be a Master’s degree holder in a relevant field;
  • CPA (K), IIA, CISA, CFA;
  • Membership of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) or relevant professional body;
  • Minimum of Eight (8) years relevant Management experience in a busy deposit-taking Sacco or any other financial institution;
  • Sound knowledge in Deposit taking Sacco, Accounting standards (IFRS) and regulatory (SASRA) guidelines governing DTS’s;
  • Proficiency in Computer applications especially in accounting packages and Systems

KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Understanding of internal auditing standards;
  • Ability to understand industry trends and vulnerabilities to identify future possibilities, opportunities, and risks;
  • Knowledge and application of Internal Audit standards in the financial services industry;
  • Proactively review and recommend security quality improvements in line with technological and product changes;
  • Ability to understand and document workflows and business processes
