Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Grants Manager, the Grants Writer will assume the responsibility of crafting clear, organized, and compelling proposals on behalf of BURN. This role involves utilizing fundraising insights and strategies to achieve our revenue targets. Additionally, the Grants Writer will collaborate with internal teams to aid in various fundraising initiatives and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders.

Success in this capacity hinges on the incumbent’s strong research abilities, adeptness in high-level writing and communication, comprehensive understanding of fundraising methodologies, and unwavering dedication to BURN’s mission. Ideal candidates are team players with excellent multitasking skills and a knack for meeting deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Conduct thorough research and develop a donor portfolio.
  2. Identify, strategize, compose, prepare, and present grant proposals, inclusive of budgets and timelines. Ensure follow-up and stewardship for multiple grants/gifts.
  3. Manage the proposal creation and submission process, generating well-crafted grant proposals, reports, and coherent documents aligned with BURN’s strategy and donor objectives.
  4. Implement tailored plans for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship for each grant, ensuring alignment with revenue targets and mission priorities.
  5. Foster relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders.
  6. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s history and product offerings.
  7. Provide supporting documents to prospective funders. Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Administration, Public Relations, Communication, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in grant writing/reporting.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing government grants.
  • Proficiency in creating budgets and defining outcomes/deliverables.
  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and budget management.
  • Competence in setting and achieving income targets.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
