About the Role

Mount Kenya University is recruiting a Full-time German Language Trainer for its campus in Mombasa. As a Full-time German Language Trainer – Mombasa at Mount Kenya University, you will be responsible for designing and delivering German language instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts. You will work within a structured curriculum framework while maintaining flexibility to adapt teaching methods to student needs and institutional requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver German language instruction according to the approved course outline and curriculum requirements.
• Develop learning materials, assessment tools and instructional resources that support student comprehension and proficiency development.
• Design individualised learning plans for students and monitor their progress against set milestones.
• Mark continuous assessment tests (C.A.Ts), end-of-term examinations and practical assessments, then submit grades to the management information system within set deadlines.
• Evaluate student work systematically and provide constructive feedback on language acquisition and skill development.
• Participate in curriculum review processes and recommend adjustments to teaching delivery based on student performance and industry feedback.
• Conduct practical language instruction sessions, including conversation, writing and comprehension exercises.
• Attend departmental meetings and contribute to departmental planning and quality assurance initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid Goethe Institute certification demonstrating a minimum B2 level proficiency in German language.
• Minimum one year of documented experience teaching German language at institutional level.
• Demonstrated competence in cross-cultural communication and ability to teach diverse student populations.
• Strong instructional design skills with the ability to create engaging and structured lesson plans.
• Proficiency in using learning management systems and educational software for grade management.
• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Languages, Education or a related field.
