Job Objective/Purpose
Our mission is to deliver professional and compassionate nursing services, providing high-quality care to our patients. This involves ensuring that patients are reviewed and treated in accordance with our hospital protocols and nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the clinical team to guide patients through their treatment journey, addressing underlying medical conditions, and executing treatment plans effectively.
- Administer all nursing protocols in adherence to our policies and guidelines. Record and report all sentinel incidents or events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
- Continuously monitor, assess, and document a patient’s condition and their response to treatment and medication. This includes considering both physical and psychosocial aspects, adjusting treatment as needed.
- Ensure the proper and effective administration and management of medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Participate actively in patient admissions, receiving handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, and ensuring that all relevant consultants have explained procedures and obtained consent.
- Efficiently and confidentially manage patient data and records, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Prioritize patient safety by following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).
- Provide supervision and guidance to Patient Attendants in accordance with their job description.
- Uphold infection control standards as outlined in our policies and adhere to infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI, and CLABSI) where applicable.
- Organize the emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, ensure that drugs and supplies are well stocked, promptly report damaged equipment, and maintain and update the checklist as needed.
- Ensure the financial viability of the unit and demonstrate growth by effectively managing costs and completing pre-authorization and documentation requirements.
- Comply with Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any instances of fraud or criminal activities, and implementing audit recommendations.
- Maintain a strong understanding of and adherence to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, particularly those related to the provision of medical services such as admission and discharge procedures, nurses’ reports, and equipment and supplies management.
- Adhere to government and professional standards of care and patient treatment as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Personal Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN).
- Valid Nursing License from NCK (Nursing Council of Kenya).
- Up-to-date certifications in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- 2+ years of experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Customer-focused with a results-oriented approach.
- Strong interpersonal skills, team player, and effective communicator.
- Highly responsive, ethical, and responsible.
