Data Steward at BDO East Africa – BDO East Africa Kenya Job Details

Key Responsibilities:
Data Cleanliness and Quality
:

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across all systems.
  • Regularly review and clean data to remove duplicates, correct errors, and update outdated information.
  • Implement and maintain data quality rules and standards.

Daily Data Sign-Off:

  • Perform daily data validation and sign-off processes to ensure data readiness for business operations.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to resolve data discrepancies and issues promptly.

Data Classification:

  • Utilize data classification tools like Microsoft Purview to categorize and label data according to its sensitivity and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data classification policies and procedures.

Data Governance:

  • Collaborate with the Data Governance Manager to implement and enforce data governance. policies
  • Ensure adherence to data governance standards and best practices across the organization.

Data Documentation:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive data documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and metadata repositories.
  • Ensure all data documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Training and Support:

  • Provide training and support to team members and other departments on data management best practices and tools.
  • Act as a point of contact for data-related queries and issues.

Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure data handling practices comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Monitor data access and usage to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in information management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, data governance, or a similar role.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in data classification tools such as Microsoft Purview.
  • Strong knowledge of data quality principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and standards.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data issues to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in the audit or advisory services industry.
  • Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
