About the Role
BURN is recruiting a Cost Accountant – Electric to manage costing, financial analysis, and profitability reporting across its Electric business unit. This is a full-time position based in Kenya, reporting to the Finance leadership team. The Cost Accountant – Electric at BURN will translate operational and sales data into financial insights that drive commercial strategy, pricing decisions, and cost control initiatives across multiple markets and sales channels.
The role combines technical cost accounting with strategic business partnering. You will oversee unit economics, inventory valuation, COGS reporting, and variance analysis while supporting expansion decisions and operational improvements. You will also supervise a junior cost accountant, ensuring data accuracy and compliance across all Electric markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and refine unit economics for all Electric markets and sales channels (PAYGO, B2B, B2C, and country activations), maintaining accurate standard costs for all SKUs and components.
- Conduct standard versus actual cost analysis, explaining key cost variances and estimating landed, production, and market-specific costs for new product expansions and market entries.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly COGS and COGM reports for leadership review, validating inventory transactions, adjustments, and valuations specific to Electric products and accessories.
- Support annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, analyze cost variances by country, channel, and product line, and track OPEX, logistics, distribution, warranty, and field-related expenses.
- Lead profitability and contribution margin analysis for all Electric markets, preparing country, product, and channel reports to guide pricing and commercial strategy decisions.
- Provide costing, pricing, and variance support to all Electric markets—Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, and future countries—validating country-specific cost inputs and adapting unit economics models to reflect local market realities.
- Support the Senior Director – Electric Business with cost modelling, financial analysis, and decision-ready inputs for business cases, expansion decisions, and strategic reviews.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities across manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and distribution; strengthen internal controls; and develop Electric-specific cost accounting best practices and standard operating procedures.
- Supervise and mentor the Junior Cost Accountant, reviewing reconciliations, cost allocations, reports, and variance analyses to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CMA is preferred.
- 3–5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a commercial or distribution environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory management and costing methods (standard costing, absorption costing, etc.).
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Ability to work across multiple markets simultaneously and adapt financial models to different operational contexts.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in cost reporting and reconciliation.
