About the Role

Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust is recruiting a Communications Intern to support its communications and resource mobilization efforts in Nairobi. This is a full-time internship position that combines content creation, social media management, and fundraising support. You will work across multiple channels to amplify the organization’s programs and connect with donors, partners, and community stakeholders.

The Communications Intern at Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust will report to the communications team and work closely with program staff and the fundraising lead. You will be responsible for telling the organization’s story through compelling content while also supporting the practical side of resource mobilization campaigns and events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and publish content across social media platforms, newsletters, and website updates that reflect the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Produce marketing collateral including brochures, promotional materials, and campaign graphics as directed by your supervisor.
  • Capture photographs during program activities, workshops, training sessions, and college events for use in communications materials.
  • Maintain and update all social media accounts, including posting schedules and platform-specific content strategy.
  • Monitor social media channels for audience engagement, respond to inquiries, and track community interactions.
  • Support fundraising initiatives by drafting appeals, creating promotional materials, and managing online fundraising platforms.
  • Research and identify potential donors, sponsors, and grant funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Compile data and prepare reports on communication performance and program impact metrics.
  • Assist in proposal writing and event execution for fundraising campaigns and donor engagement activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media management and content creation across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency in basic graphic design or photo editing tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with fundraising concepts, donor engagement, or nonprofit operations is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Comfortable working with digital tools including email platforms, CMS systems, and social media dashboards.
