About the Role

Browns Plantations is recruiting a Civil Engineering Lead to oversee all civil engineering operations across its tea estates and processing facilities in Kericho. This is a full-time position requiring a senior-level professional with extensive experience in construction project management, infrastructure development, and team leadership. The Civil Engineering Lead at Browns Plantations will manage the technical direction of all construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and supervise all civil engineering projects across tea plantations and processing factories, delivering work on schedule and to specification
  • Lead and mentor the civil engineering team and external contractors, maintaining clear communication channels and accountability standards
  • Oversee design, construction, and maintenance of plantation infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, irrigation networks, retaining walls, and bridges
  • Direct the construction and upkeep of factory buildings, processing units, and utility systems, assigning and prioritizing work orders for timely completion
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures aligned with company standards and industry regulations, conducting regular site inspections and addressing quality deficiencies
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate civil and construction staff including carpenters, plumbers, masons, and technicians, providing ongoing technical development
  • Prepare project budgets, monitor expenditures, and optimize resource allocation to achieve financial targets without compromising work quality
  • Ensure all civil works meet safety regulations, environmental requirements, and statutory compliance; conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain comprehensive records of project progress, technical specifications, site inspections, equipment maintenance (EJR), and prepare detailed reports for management

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Registration with either the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) or Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK)
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience as a Civil Engineer, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role with demonstrable accountability
  • Proven experience in road construction and maintenance (KeRRA Class L/F/S/T/W roads or equivalent standard)
  • Track record in manufacturing and residential building construction, maintenance, and end-to-end project management
  • Demonstrated expertise in water reticulation design and maintenance systems
  • Proficiency with Civil Engineering software including AutoCAD and MS Project
  • Working knowledge of inventory management systems, scheduling tools, and ERP reporting software
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to construction environments
