JSS Teacher Position Overview

Nova Pioneer is in search of an exceptional Junior Secondary School (JSS) Kiswahili/History Teacher, ready to commence in January 2024 at our Eldoret Girls High School. This opportunity is specifically open to teachers with more than 3 years of teaching experience. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering a modern 21st-century learning experience for our students.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teach your subject of specialization, i.e., Kiswahili/History.
  2. Foster positive, constructive, and professional relationships with students, their families, and colleagues.
  3. Develop lesson plans and collaborate with the Learning Design Team to review and update lessons as needed.
  4. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, tailored to the maturity and interests of the students, and maintain an organized and focused learning space.
  5. Infuse joy and a passion for learning into lessons, cultivating excitement and interest in academic excellence among students.
  6. Provide necessary accommodations and modifications to support the growth and success of all students, academically and in terms of cultural expectations.
  7. Ensure students master the content and academic standards.
  8. Integrate interactive technology into lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
  9. Set rigorous and ambitious goals for all students, provide effective feedback to help them internalize these goals.
  10. Consistently apply rewards and/or consequences for student behavior and serve as a role model for expected behavior.
  11. Meet the ambitious goals of a rapidly-growing organization consistently.
  12. Act as a teacher on duty and/or boarding teacher on duty, supporting school-wide programs aimed at behavior interventions.
  13. Timely capture students’ data on academic outcomes and articulate students’ progress to NP families and other stakeholders when required.
  14. Support clubs, societies, and other extracurricular activities at the school aimed at developing well-rounded students.
  15. Serve as a homeroom teacher when needed.
  16. Perform any other duties assigned by your Manager.

About You

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Possess a TSC certificate.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education and are qualified to teach two subjects, with a minimum grade of C+ in the teaching subjects, i.e., Kiswahili/History.
  • Attained a minimum of a C+ grade in KCSE.
  • Have 1-2 years of teaching experience.
  • Proficient in using technology, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, able to navigate uncertainty and complexity effectively.
  • A proactive problem solver, actively identifying and addressing issues by seeking suitable solutions.
  • Enthusiastic about our organizational culture, particularly eager to embrace mutual vulnerability and welcome constructive feedback.
  • Aspire to further develop leadership skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth.
