Legal Assistant- 3 positions at Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) – Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Kenya Job Details
Job Purpose
This is an entry-level position for degree holders without a postgraduate diploma in law or diploma holders entering this cadre. You will work under the guidance of the Legal Officer/Senior and may be deployed to functional units including Litigation, Conveyancing and security documentation, or Contract and Lease Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain physical and electronic filing systems for legal documents, including court files, contracts, correspondence, and other legal records to ensure proper storage and easy retrieval
- Assist in preparation, compiling, and filing court documents, including pleadings, notices, affidavits, and other legal documents under senior legal officers’ guidance
- File court documents and follow up on service of process to ensure timely completion of legal procedures and compliance with court requirements
- Accompany senior legal officers to court proceedings and provide support during mentions, hearings, and other court-related activities
- Monitor deadlines for legal processes, court dates, and other legal obligations while maintaining updated schedules and reminders
- Receive and process requests for legal services from departments and branches, coordinating referrals with appropriate legal officers
- Assist in conducting legal research and preparing basic legal research memoranda, summaries, and reports on assigned matters
- Assist in maintaining legal databases and tracking systems by capturing, updating, and retrieving legal information
- Assist in preparing training materials and legal compliance awareness sessions for staff
- Assist in preparing routine legal correspondence and follow up on pending legal matters with internal departments, courts, and external service providers
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned to support effective legal operations
Person Specifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law; or Diploma in Law, Advanced Diploma in Law from a recognized institution
- Valid Certificate in Process Service
- At least 2-3 years of working experience in providing legal support
- High levels of integrity, ethical standards, and professionalism
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
