About the Role
HCS Affiliates Group is recruiting a GSM Engineer – Central & Eastern to join its Technology Department in Kiambu. This is a full-time, onsite position based in the central and eastern region, responsible for maintaining and operating GSM network infrastructure across assigned coverage areas. The successful candidate will ensure service quality and network continuity while managing field operations and coordinating with technical teams to resolve network issues efficiently.
The GSM Engineer – Central & Eastern at HCS Affiliates Group reports to the Team Leader of Field Operations and works closely with the Regional Technical Manager. HCS Affiliates Group is a human resources and management consultancy organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, serving clients across telecommunications and related sectors. This role combines hands-on technical maintenance with planning and coordination responsibilities across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to equipment faults logged in the trouble ticket system and resolve them within the corrective maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Conduct preventive routine maintenance to keep equipment and site environments in healthy operating condition.
- Work with Support and Network Management Centre teams to analyse fault incidents, confirm corrections, and communicate resolutions to stakeholders.
- Recommend improvements to network structure and architecture based on field observations and performance data.
- Execute and document the preventive maintenance program, submitting regular reports on all maintenance activities.
- Partner with equipment vendors to commission new sites, ensuring links and equipment meet engineering standards and factory specifications before acceptance.
- Compile maintenance reports and participate in daily evaluation meetings to track progress and identify issues.
- Complete root cause analysis (RCA) forms to document link failures and provide evidence of outage causes when requested.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or equivalent HND qualification.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.
- CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification.
- Minimum two years of hands-on experience in transmission network maintenance.
- Valid driving license for field mobility across assigned regions.
- Strong knowledge of GSM 2G/3G/4G architecture and base station subsystem (BSS) and transmission technology.
- Proficiency with Network Management Systems, radio rigging, and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability in troubleshooting, planning, organising, and customer focus.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain network availability at or above 99.60% throughout the assigned region.
- Resolve 80% of trouble tickets within the agreed service level agreement (SLA).
- Ensure network quality with packet loss below 0.05%.
- Complete 90% of planned maintenance work on the first attempt without rework.
