📋 Job Overview

Project Coordinator at International Rescue Committee – International Rescue Committee Kenya Job Details

About the Role

The International Rescue Committee is recruiting for a Project Coordinator to join its Infectious Disease AI and Data Governance portfolio in Nairobi. This is a full-time position supporting a global humanitarian organisation that responds to the world’s worst crises, helping displaced and vulnerable populations survive, recover, and rebuild their lives across 40+ countries. Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee works at the intersection of health security and humanitarian aid, developing diagnostic tools for diseases and settings that artificial intelligence has historically overlooked.

The Project Coordinator will serve as the operational backbone for a portfolio building image-based diagnostic systems across radiology, dermatology, and microscopy. You will manage workplans, navigate complex regulatory frameworks, coordinate dataset expansion, support training curriculum development, and liaise between IRC country programs and international research partners. This role demands someone comfortable with both bureaucratic processes and technical project environments, capable of unblocking administrative obstacles while keeping strategic work on track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update portfolio workplans, progress trackers, and dashboards to ensure real-time visibility into milestones, risks, and key decisions across the team.
  • Manage regulatory compliance by acting as primary IRB proxy—drafting, submitting, amending, and renewing protocol applications across the International Rescue Committee and partner review boards.
  • Coordinate Data Use Agreements (DUAs) and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) between universities and the organisation, ensuring patient data privacy and regulatory alignment.
  • Oversee identification, review, and extraction of clinical image data from public sources including open-access journals, registries, and repositories; manage secure data transfers from international and US partners.
  • Design and implement data governance frameworks suitable for fragile and conflict-affected settings; supervise image-data ingestion pipelines and conduct quality assurance across modalities.
  • Draft and coordinate multilingual training curricula (French and English) for frontline healthcare workers on AI diagnostic tools; manage consultant deliverables and ensure clinical feasibility in resource-constrained environments.
  • Support acceptability and usability studies on clinician adoption of diagnostic tools; coordinate data collection and feed findings back into tool refinement and curriculum design.
  • Coordinate operational communication between IRC country programs and collaborating research teams at universities; arrange logistics for partner meetings, technical working groups, and donor briefings.
  • Support donor reporting by developing templates, tracking deadlines, consolidating submissions, and formatting final reports; assist in drafting research write-ups, grant reports, and policy briefs.
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support including scheduling, meeting logistics, documentation management, and onboarding of new team members and consultants.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in Public Health, Global Affairs, Bioethics, Healthcare Administration, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3–6 years of hands-on project coordination experience in a large international NGO, humanitarian organisation, or academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated experience working in fragile, conflict-affected, or humanitarian health settings, with exposure to infectious disease programs.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex bureaucratic environments, manage multiple systems, and handle ethical reviews and compliance documentation.
  • Competency with project management tools, data systems (REDCap experience valued), and knowledge management platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to draft clear reports, protocols, and correspondence for diverse audiences including donors, partners, and clinicians.
  • Capacity to coordinate across time zones and cultures, liaising effectively with international teams and academic institutions.

What to Expect

  • You will work in a matrix environment supporting a portfolio focused on AI-driven diagnostic innovation in resource-limited settings, requiring flexibility and proactive problem-solving.
  • The role involves substantial interaction with international partners, regulatory bodies, and IRC internal systems; comfort with documentation-heavy workflows is essential.
  • This Project Coordinator at International Rescue Committee position is based in Nairobi and is open to qualified candidates on a rolling basis. Click Apply below to submit your application.
