About the Role
Equity Afia is recruiting a Pediatrician to join its healthcare team in Nairobi on a full-time basis. This role combines direct clinical practice with responsibility for managing complex pediatric cases and contributing to the organisation’s clinical oversight. The successful candidate will work within a structured healthcare environment where clinical expertise and mentorship responsibilities go hand in hand.
As a Pediatrician at Equity Afia, you will assess multifaceted medical conditions affecting children, work through diagnostic data, and shape patient management plans while ensuring adherence to established protocols and sector regulations. You will also guide and develop other clinical staff members under your supervision, strengthening the overall quality of paediatric care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and diagnose complex pediatric medical cases, drawing on clinical examination and investigation findings.
- Interpret diagnostic data and clinical results to inform treatment pathways and patient care decisions.
- Provide authoritative advice on patient management strategies aligned with current clinical evidence and best practice.
- Ensure all clinical activity complies with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council regulations and organisational policies.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors and other healthcare professionals within the paediatric team, supporting their skill development.
- Maintain knowledge of evolving health policies and contribute to implementation within the clinical setting.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Master of Medicine in Paediatrics or related speciality.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or MBBS) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum two years of postgraduate clinical experience or documented evidence of working under specialist supervision.
- Current specialist registration and valid practice license issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Working knowledge of healthcare documentation standards, reporting frameworks, and institutional policies.
- Competency in computer systems, particularly Health Management Information Systems (HMIS).
- Sound clinical decision-making ability and proficiency in patient case management.
Desirable Qualities
- Knowledge of Kenyan health legislation, regulatory requirements, and public health insurance schemes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability when managing clinical or operational challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate paediatric concepts clearly to non-clinical colleagues and families.
- Experience in clinical audit, healthcare data analysis, policy development, or clinical advisory roles.
