About the Role
Reeds Africa Consult is recruiting a full-time Accounts Assistant to join its team in Kenya. This is a hands-on accounting position supporting the financial and administrative operations of a retail and inventory-focused business. You will handle transaction recording, account reconciliation, and compliance work that directly impacts the organisation’s financial health and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will bring 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, a relevant diploma or degree, and a professional accounting qualification. You must be highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with financial data and multiple accounting systems. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and process daily financial transactions including sales receipts, customer payments, and supplier expenditures.
- Review, code, and process supplier invoices, staff expense claims, and petty cash movements.
- Reconcile cash balances, bank statements, and mobile money accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain and update accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers and supporting documentation.
- Prepare draft monthly financial statements and management reports for review by senior finance staff.
- Support physical stock counts and assist with inventory reconciliations against system records.
- Track and monitor branch expenditure patterns, flag unusual transactions, and ensure all costs are properly documented.
- Support internal and external audit activities, respond to audit queries, and help verify compliance with internal financial controls.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related field.
- CPA Part II qualification or equivalent professional accounting credential.
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance roles.
- Competent use of Microsoft Excel for financial analysis, data manipulation, and report generation.
- Working knowledge of accounting software and willingness to learn the systems used by Reeds Africa Consult.
- Strong numerical skills, analytical thinking, and ability to solve accounting problems independently.
- Consistently high accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in all financial work.
