About the Role
Habitat for Humanity International is recruiting a Communications Assistant to join its Africa Area Office on a full-time basis. This role supports the development and delivery of communications strategies that highlight Habitat’s housing and community development work across the African region. You will work alongside regional programs teams and the global communications department to ensure that Habitat’s mission and impact are effectively communicated to donors, advocates, partners, and the public.
The Communications Assistant will be based in Kenya and will manage a range of communications functions—from content creation and social media management to brand compliance and event support. This is a hands-on position that requires someone who can move between strategic planning and practical execution, working with country office teams to roll out regional communications campaigns and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Africa programs team to develop regional narratives that align with organizational strategy and serve fundraising, advocacy, and program objectives.
- Gather content and story materials that demonstrate organizational impact, working with stakeholders across different departments to source compelling assets.
- Manage website content updates and oversee regional social media channels to increase engagement, visibility, and follower growth.
- Review and edit communications materials including written stories, photographs, and video content to maintain brand consistency and quality standards.
- Coordinate communications activities across the region, including media outreach, partnership announcements, and campaign deployments.
- Assist in planning and executing communications for regional events, covering branding, photography, and post-event content development.
- Support the Communications Assistant at Habitat for Humanity International team with administrative coordination and logistics as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or a closely related role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to tailor messaging for both technical and general audiences.
- Proficiency in managing social media platforms and understanding of social media metrics and audience engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate communications campaigns, including identifying key messages and working with stakeholders.
- Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal is advantageous.
- Prior experience in the nonprofit sector or with development communications is preferred.
- Experience supporting communications work in the Africa region is a plus.
