📋 Job Overview

Junior Designer at BURN – BURN Kenya Job Details

About the Role

BURN is seeking a Junior Designer to join its creative team on a full-time basis in Kenya. This position is designed for someone with foundational design skills, a portfolio demonstrating creative promise, and the mindset to grow within a collaborative, feedback-centred environment. You won’t be expected to have all the answers immediately—what matters is your curiosity, work ethic, and commitment to developing your craft under mentorship from experienced creatives.

As a Junior Designer at BURN, you will learn through hands-on involvement with live projects and campaigns. Working alongside senior team members who are invested in your development, you’ll build commercial awareness, deepen your conceptual thinking, and develop the design judgement that distinguishes strong designers over time. This is a genuine learning role within a team that prioritises creative quality and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and produce high-quality visual assets across multiple formats—digital, print, internal communications, social media, presentations, and brand materials.
  • Resize and adapt creative work across different channels and platforms while maintaining consistent brand identity and visual standards.
  • Manage the production cycle of campaigns and brand collateral, handling everything from initial file preparation through final delivery and output.
  • Research, source, and select relevant imagery, icons, and visual references that match the creative direction and brand voice.
  • Convert creative briefs into coherent, on-brand design solutions, initially working with guidance and progressively building independence.
  • Apply core design principles—typography, layout, composition, and visual hierarchy—across all deliverables, regardless of format or scale.
  • Participate in creative planning sessions and brainstorming, offering ideas and visual perspectives while developing strategic thinking about design’s role in communication.
  • Maintain brand guidelines across all outputs, understand why visual consistency matters, and execute work with meticulous attention to detail at every stage.
  • Work effectively with copywriters, marketing teams, and other creatives, contributing to a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Seek clarity on briefs by asking relevant questions before beginning design work, and incorporate feedback efficiently and professionally.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of professional design experience, whether in-house roles, digital agencies, freelance work, or progression from an internship.
  • A portfolio demonstrating solid grasp of design fundamentals—typography, layout, hierarchy, and colour use—alongside emerging conceptual and brand thinking.
  • Understanding that design exists to solve communication and business problems, not merely to create aesthetically pleasing work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for production and asset creation.
  • Working knowledge of Figma for digital asset creation and collaborative design workflows.
  • Competency in Microsoft PowerPoint for presentation design at a professional standard.
  • Practical understanding of typography, grid systems, and asset creation for both web and print contexts.
  • Familiarity with brand guidelines and the ability to apply them accurately and consistently across deliverables.
  • Experience creating social media content with awareness of platform specifications and how to communicate visually for digital audiences.
  • Openness to feedback and genuine motivation to learn, develop, and be mentored by senior creative professionals.
  • Experience with AI-assisted design tools and interest in how emerging technologies are shaping design workflows.
  • Prior exposure to corporate, consulting, financial services, or enterprise brand environments, even in a support or assistant capacity.
  • Some involvement in campaign development or content delivery, with understanding of how creative work moves from brief to final output.
  • Familiarity with stakeholder review and approval processes, even from observation or junior-level participation.
  • Interest in the strategic dimensions of design—brand positioning, audience insight, and how visual identity serves business objectives.

What to Expect

  • A structured professional environment with clear feedback loops and a team committed to your growth and creative development.
  • Regular exposure to real client briefs, campaign work, and the practical realities of how design functions within a business context.
  • Mentorship from experienced creatives who value quality execution and will guide your progression from junior to increasingly independent designer.
