About the Role

Saint-Gobain is recruiting a Finance Intern to join its accounting team in Kenya. This internship offers hands-on exposure to core accounting functions, including transaction recording, reconciliation, and financial reporting. You’ll work under the guidance of the Senior Accountant, gaining practical experience in accounting processes while supporting month-end and year-end closing cycles. The position is based in Kenya and is open to graduates or final-year students with a background in accounting or finance.

This Finance Intern at Saint-Gobain role provides a structured learning environment where you’ll apply classroom knowledge to real-world accounting scenarios. You’ll gain familiarity with ERP systems, tax compliance procedures, and internal controls while developing the technical and analytical skills required for a career in accounting. The internship is offered on a rolling basis, allowing flexibility in start dates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record daily accounting entries, including journals, accruals, and adjustments under the direction of the Senior Accountant.
  • Maintain proper documentation and systematic filing of all accounting records to ensure data integrity and easy retrieval.
  • Match supplier invoices against purchase orders and goods received notes, then post approved transactions into the ERP system.
  • Support payment processing activities under supervision and assist in executing payment runs.
  • Reconcile supplier and customer account balances, identifying and investigating variances in cooperation with the accounting team.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations, comparing bank statements with internal records and documenting findings.
  • Log and track cash, bank, and petty cash movements within the financial system.
  • Contribute to the compilation of monthly financial reporting packages and cash flow forecasts.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures, including account reviews and final statement preparation.
  • Prepare audit-ready schedules, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with the filing of statutory tax returns and ensure timely payment of tax obligations including PAYE, VAT, SHA/SHIF, and NSSF.
  • Support the preparation of cost reports to improve product costing accuracy across the organisation.
  • Maintain compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Organise and maintain both physical and digital financial records in an efficient, searchable format.
  • Assist in budget preparation, financial forecasting, and stock count reconciliation processes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, B.Com Accounting, or Costing (or equivalent).
  • Between zero and two years of relevant experience working as an accountant or in an accounting-related role.
  • Partial or full CPA Kenya or ACCA qualification (or in progress towards these credentials).
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and practical experience with Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Exposure to SAP Business One or another enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy in numerical work.
  • Strong organisational skills and the capability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within set deadlines.
  • Clear understanding of internal control procedures and a commitment to compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to identify accounting discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
