About the Role
PATH is recruiting a Temporary Project Officer to support a time-bound initiative focused on toxicology and poisoning emergency response systems in Kenya. This is a full-time position based in Kenya within the NGO sector. You will conduct a comprehensive needs assessment, engage stakeholders across multiple counties, and develop evidence-based recommendations for strengthening primary health care systems in the region.
The successful candidate will synthesise desk research, field findings, and stakeholder input into actionable reports and strategic proposals. This role sits at the intersection of health systems research and policy implementation, with direct influence over how emergency response capacity is strengthened across Kenya and partner countries in the Eastern and Northern region.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a desk review and develop a detailed action plan for the project inception phase, setting the foundation for all subsequent work.
- Lead a validated needs assessment that identifies system gaps, establishes priority areas, and charts pathways toward long-term sustainability of toxicology and poisoning emergency services.
- Design modular, replicable models suited to Kenya’s context and applicable across other Eastern and Northern region countries, ensuring scalability and local relevance.
- Prepare and deliver a stakeholder validation presentation, incorporating feedback from partners and officials to refine recommendations and build consensus.
- Compile findings and recommendations into a formal report for integration into Kenya Tox and Poisoning Emergencies proposal, including detailed budget notes and implementation timelines.
- Engage multiple stakeholder groups—government health officials, county teams, health facility staff, and partner organisations—throughout the assessment and validation process.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, statistics, health systems research, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in health systems, programme evaluation, or public health research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of primary health care systems architecture and health policy frameworks in Kenya.
- Direct fieldwork experience in South-Eastern Kenya counties, specifically Kitui, Tharaka Nithi, or Meru; familiarity with the regional health landscape is essential.
- Proven ability to engage and manage relationships with diverse stakeholder groups at county and national levels.
- Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated competence in needs assessments, data synthesis, and evidence-based reporting.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation methodology and the ability to translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex health systems information to technical and non-technical audiences.
