About the Role
World Vision Kenya is recruiting a Project Officer – Child Protection to lead technical implementation of child protection interventions under The Kenya Big Dream project, funded by World Vision US. Based in Kenya, this full-time position focuses on eliminating female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage while strengthening community protection systems for children. The role combines field-level program delivery with coordination across government, community organizations, and local stakeholders to drive sustainable change in child welfare outcomes.
As a Project Officer – Child Protection at World Vision Kenya, you will manage community mobilization, training, monitoring, and reporting across multiple intervention areas. You’ll work directly with households, local leaders, women’s groups, youth networks, and circumcisers to shift social norms, establish alternative rites of passage, and build systems that protect children from harm. This NGO position in Kenya requires someone who can balance technical program knowledge with cultural sensitivity and strong partnership management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of child protection activities aligned with project proposal standards, ensuring integration of best practices and adherence to child protection guidelines at all implementation levels.
- Develop detailed activity plans and budgets for child protection technical support, working closely with the Project Manager to ensure quality delivery and timely resource mobilization.
- Coordinate with ward and county government ministries to integrate child protection interventions into local systems and strengthen formal protection mechanisms at national and county levels.
- Facilitate establishment of Anti-FGM collaborative networks that bring together government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, and local champions to amplify prevention efforts.
- Build capacity of communities, partners, teachers, and child protection resource persons on FGM prevention, child marriage alternatives, and child-friendly protective systems through targeted training programs.
- Conduct routine data collection on project-specific indicators, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports, and document lessons learned and success stories for organizational learning.
- Lead community awareness campaigns and coordinate celebrations of international child protection days to mobilize support for social norm change and program sustainability.
- Provide technical input into baseline and endline evaluations, participate in review of implementation plans, and recommend innovative approaches to strengthen child protection outcomes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, public health, development studies, education, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field experience in child protection programming, FGM/child marriage prevention, community development, or humanitarian response with NGOs in Kenya.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting in compliance with donor guidelines and child protection standards.
- Proven ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder initiatives and build effective partnerships across government institutions, civil society organizations, and community groups.
- Strong understanding of gender-based violence, child safeguarding, alternative rites of passage, and community mobilization methodologies.
- Excellent report writing, data management, and communication skills in English; proficiency in a local language spoken in the project area is an advantage.
- Commitment to Christian principles and willingness to participate in team devotions and prayer gatherings as part of organizational culture.
