Job Purpose

The role entails assessing, pricing, and establishing terms for medical risks.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Responsibilities

  1. Assess both new and existing risks to ensure they are adequately rated, aligning with recommended terms and conditions to maintain profitability in the medical portfolio.
  2. Provide competitive quotations to all customers promptly, adhering to established standards.
  3. Manage membership, including additions and cancellations.
  4. Set up schemes, define benefits, and update membership details in the system.
  5. Debit premiums and cover conditions accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to prescribed standards and procedures.
  6. Efficiently issue medical insurance cards.
  7. Prepare and send renewal notices within specified timelines, coordinating follow-ups to meet renewal capture targets.
  8. Ensure policy endorsements and documents are precise and produced according to service standards, with timely dispatch.
  9. Conduct training sessions for various stakeholders on company products to enhance knowledge and business growth.
  10. Monitor scheme loss ratios and adjust renewal terms as needed.
  11. Assist in business acquisition by following up on quotes and intermediary visits.
  12. Ensure business adheres to the company’s credit policy and follow up on payment plans.

Customer Service Responsibilities

  1. Continuously monitor the outpatient fund, ensuring prudent utilization of cover and reporting any anomalies. Ensure timely invoicing for top-ups.
  2. Provide benefit utilization reports as per the established service standards in the customer charter.
  3. Offer timely feedback to clients’ queries and concerns in accordance with service charter provisions.
  4. Maintain client and intermediary relationships through regular visits.

Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications:

Minimum Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science/Statistics from a recognized university.

Professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in Insurance AIIK/ACII.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in health insurance underwriting.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of the insurance industry and medical underwriting.
