Position Overview:

The Field Laboratory Technologist will report to their respective Field Team Leaders and will have the responsibility of collecting blood samples for DBS (Dried Blood Spot) from households during surveys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visit designated survey households and secure informed consent, assent, or parental/guardian permission from eligible members for blood draws and required testing.
  • Perform finger pricks and conduct all other survey tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Properly label collected blood samples, record test results both electronically (using a Tablet) and manually, and then prepare samples for storage and shipment.
  • Ensure safe disposal of biohazardous waste.
  • Provide referrals for polio vaccination to eligible survey participants.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Biomedical Sciences.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with a valid license.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy (blood drawing).
  • Experience in field data collection and/or surveys is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Openness to undertake additional assigned duties and responsibilities.
