ECDE Teacher/Caregiver at Tharaka Nithi County Assembly

Appointment Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Have a minimum grade of D+ (Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or KCE Division IV at ‘O’ Level.
2. Possess a Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education issued by KNEC/Ministry of Education or an equivalent qualification approved by the relevant authorities.
3. Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
4. Reside in Tharaka Nithi County or be willing to relocate to this area.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ECDE Caregivers will report to the employer and their supervisor and will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Providing assistance in supervising learning activities and maintaining discipline.
2. Supporting the Preprimary 1 teacher in caring for and educating children in PP1.
3. Creating teaching and learning materials for instructing students.
4. Assisting children during meal times and restroom breaks.
5. Maintaining a safe and suitable environment for children to engage in play.
6. Serving as a role model, providing guidance and counseling, mentoring, and motivating learners.
7. Compiling reports related to their responsibilities.
8. Ensuring the safety and security of the students.
9. Assisting in organizing and facilitating play and learning activities for the students.
10. Fostering the holistic development of learners, encompassing their spiritual, moral, social, mental, physical, aesthetic, and emotional growth.
11. Managing PP1 classes with support from the PP1 teacher and maintaining professional and administrative records, including schemes of work, lesson plans, daily activity schedules, and attendance registers.
12. Preparing and developing play and learning materials.
