Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing the company’s financial accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. This role ensures accurate recording of financial transactions, timely preparation of financial statements, inventory and cost management, and adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements. The position also supports management with financial insights to enhance efficiency, cost control, and overall profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate books of accounts in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Ensure timely reconciliation of accounts including bank, suppliers, and intercompany accounts.
- Update ERP/accounting systems with accurate financial data.
- Budgeting, Costing & Financial Analysis
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor actual vs. budget performance and report variances to management.
- Support production teams with cost efficiency analysis and budgeting.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
- Maintain and monitor fixed assets register, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure tracking.
- Cash Flow & Credit Management
- Handle daily cash flow management and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable to ensure timely settlements.
- Review credit terms and support credit control and collection of receivables.
- Ensure timely disbursement of employee salaries.
- Inventory & Stock Management
- Conduct regular stock reconciliations and support physical inventory counts.
- Ensure accurate inventory accounting and cost control procedures.
- Compliance, Taxation & Audits
- Prepare and file tax returns; ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, Housing Levy, and other statutory deductions.
- Liaise with auditors (internal & external) and ensure timely completion of audits.
- Ensure adherence to IFRS/GAAP and local tax laws and regulations.
- Implement and monitor strong internal controls across finance and operations.
- Process Improvement
- Streamline accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Enhance ERP usage and ensure financial data integrity.
- Perform any other duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA qualification preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and local tax regulations.
- Proven financial accuracy, integrity, and strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of manufacturing costing principles.
- Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent).
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and financial modeling.
- Strong communication and financial reporting skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
