Intern – Finance at World Vision Kenya – World Vision Kenya Kenya Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
The intern will work closely with the department staff and gain exposure to the following areas in order to enhance their skills:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Input financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Prepare accurate project funding requests and submit them to the Procurement Department.
- Ensure prompt preparation and review of bank and M-Pesa reconciliation statements.
- Compile precise financial analyses for management decision-making.
- Generate and provide Project Financial Reports as required by donors.
- Review and record Employee Expense Reports in a timely manner.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet items on schedule.
- Consolidate periodic Cluster compliance reports.
Processing of Financial Payments:
- Timely process payments to service providers.
- Facilitate timely advance requests for staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Review M-pesa requests from various requesters for document completeness.
- Validate M-pesa requests through Safaricom portal, coordinating corrections with requestors.
- File final payment reports from Safaricom portal.
Financial Management and Staff Support:
- Address service providers’ queries about payments.
- Handle petty cash requests as necessary.
- Analyze and submit exempted taxes (VAT) for refund according to donor guidelines.
- Enhance capacity of staff and service providers regarding payment system requirements and changes.
- Prepare and submit timely cash requests to the donor.
- Book received income accurately and promptly.
- Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts:
**Undertake reconciliation of receivable and payable accounts for the program.
- Continuously monitor balance sheet account balances.
- Ensure timely accounting and facilitate staff advance bookings.
- Match transaction amounts in balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly reconciliation statements for balance sheet accounts.
Asset Management and Administration:
- Tag and record Project assets accurately in the asset register and Sun system within the Cluster.
- Support asset acquisition, management, and disposal in accordance with donor requirements.
- Coordinate with security department and project driver for proper motor vehicle use as per WVK policies.
- Review monthly motor vehicle summary reports from project driver to ensure correct usage and efficiency.
Risk Management:
- Identify role-related risks for inclusion in Risk Connect and recommend mitigation measures.
- Assist with grant project audits following donor stipulations.
- Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries.
- Implement audit findings and recommendations in a timely manner.
- Ensure grant operations adhere to WV’s internal control systems for risk mitigation and accountability.
- Actively participate in project start-up workshops to understand project financial aspects.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants for the graduate internship programme must be Kenyan citizens and meet the following requirements:
- Priority given to Bachelor’s degree graduates who have been child sponsorship beneficiaries or have experienced WV’s community development at home.
- Genuine desire and capability to serve in rural and semi-urban areas among the less privileged.
- Practicing Christians, irrespective of denomination, gender, or ethnic background.
- Demonstrated good character, honesty, competence, and overall physical and emotional well-being.
- Willingness to dedicate the entire year to the project.
- Graduated within the last year with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting/Finance, Economics, or related business field from a recognized university.
- Professional qualifications in CPA Section II.
