About the Role
Braeburn Schools is recruiting a Head of Football Academy to lead strategic development and delivery of a high-performance, inclusive football program across its Garden Estate campus in Nairobi. This is a full-time position reporting to senior leadership within one of East Africa’s largest international school networks, operating 16 co-educational schools across 9 campuses serving over 3,600 students. The role combines coaching expertise, operational management, and talent development to establish the academy as a leading school-based football program in the region.
The Head of Football Academy at Braeburn Schools will oversee year-round training delivery, competitive fixtures, and development pathways for students of all abilities, plus community participation. The position requires on-site presence at the Garden Estate facility, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during school holidays to support matches and camps.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic development, implementation, and growth of the year-round football academy program, using participation data and feedback to evaluate effectiveness and inform planning.
- Establish structured progression pathways for players, ranging from grassroots and recreational levels through to high-performance and elite development for Braeburn students.
- Oversee coaching staff recruitment, mentoring, and performance management; drive a unified coaching philosophy across boys’ and girls’ football programs within Braeburn Schools.
- Organise and deliver regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops for coaches across the Braeburn Group to elevate coaching standards.
- Manage squad planning and selection processes across all academy levels; arrange fixtures, local league participation, and invitational tournaments at appropriate competitive levels.
- Host holiday camps, academy events, and liaise with local football associations to align initiatives with national talent identification schemes.
- Oversee facility maintenance, equipment management, and strict adherence to health and safety standards; ensure safeguarding and child protection protocols are embedded in all academy activities.
- Manage the academy operations budget, maintain detailed attendance and performance records, and promote the Football Academy through marketing campaigns and media content.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Recognised professional football coaching qualification (FA, UEFA, or equivalent).
- Proven track record leading and delivering a successful youth, academy, or school-based football program.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and budget management capabilities with ability to handle complex logistics and scheduling.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage confidently with students, staff, parents, and external organisations.
- Thorough understanding of safeguarding protocols and child protection procedures in sports settings.
- Genuine commitment to developing young athletes and promoting inclusivity through sport.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
