About the Role
Kingdom Bank Limited is recruiting a Business Banker – SME to join its commercial banking team in Nairobi. This is a full-time position designed for a banking professional with at least 6 years of experience in MSME and business banking relationship management. Kingdom Bank Limited, a subsidiary of the Co-operative Bank of Kenya, manages over Kes. 457 Billion in total assets and serves thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises across the country.
The Business Banker – SME will be responsible for building and managing a portfolio of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) customers, driving revenue growth through structured relationship management and targeted sales of the bank’s full suite of business banking solutions. This role combines credit origination, relationship development, and portfolio management in a results-driven environment where your ability to understand customer financing needs directly impacts business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a portfolio of MSME and emerging business customers through relationship management and solution-based selling, with a focus on portfolio growth and customer acquisition.
- Conduct financial analysis and credit assessments to determine funding requirements, prepare quality credit applications with comprehensive financial documentation, and recommend appropriate lending solutions across working capital, term loans, asset finance, mortgage finance, and trade finance products.
- Originate and grow trade finance business, including Letters of Credit, Bank Guarantees, and import/export finance, while identifying opportunities to support customers involved in local and international trade.
- Promote and sell the bank’s comprehensive business banking products including lending solutions, trade finance, digital banking services, insurance, and investment offerings.
- Monitor portfolio performance, manage credit quality and delinquency trends, identify early warning signals, and ensure timely review and renewal of credit facilities in line with bank policies.
- Develop and execute customer acquisition plans, sales strategies, and structured call plans to achieve assigned business targets while maintaining accurate pipeline management records.
- Drive adoption of digital banking and transaction banking solutions to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency across your portfolio.
- Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements including AML, KYC, and CTF compliance, identify and mitigate operational and credit risks, and report suspicious transactions in line with established procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in Banking with significant exposure to MSME, Commercial Banking, or Business Banking relationship management.
- Proven track record in portfolio growth, customer acquisition, and relationship management within the MSME segment.
- Demonstrable experience in Business Lending, Consumer Lending, Trade Finance, Asset Finance, Mortgage Finance, and Working Capital Solutions.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit structuring, and risk assessment in the context of SME lending.
- Professional banking qualifications such as AKIB, CPA, ACCA, CFA, or Credit Management certification (advantageous).
- Ability to manage a sizeable customer portfolio and consistently achieve business targets in banking jobs in Nairobi.
