About the Role
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking a Frappe Full Stack Engineer to join its Nairobi-based team on a full-time basis. This role focuses on designing and delivering a next-generation digital protection ecosystem built on the Frappe Framework, which will replace the organisation’s existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform. You’ll work alongside solution architects, product owners, and technical stakeholders to build full-stack solutions that serve the ICRC’s humanitarian mission across more than 80 countries.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has operated since 1863 as an independent, neutral organisation helping people affected by conflict and armed violence. With a workforce of approximately 14,500 staff members, the ICRC’s mandate is rooted in the Geneva Conventions of 1949. This Frappe Full Stack Engineer position in Nairobi offers the chance to contribute to systems that protect and assist conflict victims worldwide through reliable, scalable technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the new Protection digital ecosystem using the Frappe Framework, including custom DocTypes, reports, workflows, scripts, and dashboards.
- Build REST APIs and manage integrations with external systems and services to ensure seamless data flow across platforms.
- Develop responsive frontend interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Frappe UI components to support user-facing functionality.
- Write server-side business logic in Python and design, optimise, and manage MariaDB database structures and queries.
- Troubleshoot bugs, investigate performance issues, and resolve production incidents while meeting service and operational level agreements (SLAs and OLAs).
- Manage containerised deployments using Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift, and create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Azure DevOps and GitHub for automated build, testing, and deployment.
- Perform code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and support ICT teams in the field with global and centrally managed solutions.
- Proactively manage assigned tickets and requests, track product backlog items, and ensure resolution time commitments are met.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT engineering or equivalent qualification; ITIL and DevOps certifications are advantageous.
- Minimum 2 years of production Frappe development experience with deep expertise in DocType metadata, workflows, permission hooks, custom report builder, RQ background jobs, and scheduled events.
- Minimum 3 years of frontend development experience, with at least 1 year working with Frappe UI (Vue) in production. Strong knowledge of Progressive Web Apps (PWA), Service Workers, background synchronisation, client-side persistence patterns, conflict UI, offline UX, Right-To-Left (RTL) layouts, and i18n.
- Minimum 5 years of production development experience in Python.
- Demonstrated experience integrating and running complex technical solutions; strong discipline in unit and integration testing using Frappe test runner and pytest.
- Excellent spoken and written English; fluency in French is an advantage.
- Solid knowledge of Docker/Podman and Linux; experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift is preferred. Strong understanding of database systems and SQL; MariaDB knowledge is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Git version control, contributions to the Frappe UI ecosystem, and an open-source portfolio are all advantages.
