About the Role
World Vision Kenya is recruiting a Debt Recovery Officer-Eldoret to manage and recover overdue loan accounts, with particular focus on accounts exceeding 180 days in arrears and written-off portfolios. This is a full-time position based in Eldoret, within the Finance and Accounting sector. The successful candidate will work alongside Branch Managers and key stakeholders to maximize recovery outcomes, reduce loan losses, strengthen portfolio quality, and execute recovery strategies while maintaining professional relationships with clients.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess, manage, and pursue recovery of all accounts that are 180 days or more overdue, as well as accounts that have been written off.
- Initiate contact with customers in default and negotiate repayment terms and settlement agreements.
- Track assigned accounts regularly and verify that recovery targets are met on schedule.
- Design and put in place recovery action plans for written-off accounts with the goal of improving recovery rates and portfolio performance.
- Coach and advise Branch Managers on strategies for recovering long-standing arrears and written-off accounts, and review their proposed recovery actions.
- Conduct branch site visits, customer assessments, and field-based recovery work as required; verify customer details and evaluate ability to repay; trace customers, guarantors, and collateral as needed.
- Liaise with external debt collectors, law firms, auctioneers, and collection firms; monitor their performance and recommend whether to continue or end the engagement.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly recovery reports; track performance against targets; and maintain complete records of all recovery activities and outcomes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Practical background in credit management, collections, debt recovery, or microfinance operations.
- Proven track record managing non-performing loans, accounts over 180 days in arrears, and written-off accounts is highly valued.
- Working knowledge of loan recovery procedures, portfolio management methods, and negotiation strategies.
- Proficiency in negotiation and customer relationship management.
- Strong capacity for independent analysis and problem-solving in complex situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for stakeholder reporting and customer engagement.
- High standards of integrity, accountability, and professional conduct.
