About the Role

Plainsview Hospital is recruiting an Accounts Receivable Officer for its finance department in Nairobi. This is a full-time position based at our facility in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where we have provided healthcare and nursing services to the community since 1999. The Accounts Receivable Officer at Plainsview Hospital will manage patient billing, insurance claims, and payment collections, ensuring timely recovery of outstanding balances across our operations.

As one of the largest nursing homes in Kiambu County, Plainsview Hospital processes significant receivables through corporate accounts, medical insurance schemes, and individual patient payments. You will play a central role in maintaining cash flow and supporting the organisation’s financial health. This accounting position requires someone with healthcare billing experience and a solid understanding of revenue cycle management in a hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage patient accounts and follow up on outstanding balances with individuals and corporate clients
  • Process and reconcile insurance claims, including medical insurance billing submissions and payment receipts
  • Monitor the revenue cycle from patient registration through final payment collection
  • Liaise with insurance providers and corporate accounts to resolve billing disputes and payment delays
  • Maintain accurate records in the hospital billing system and HMIS (Hospital Management Information System)
  • Prepare regular aging reports and analysis of receivables for management review
  • Assist in month-end and year-end account reconciliation processes

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (HND also considered)
  • CPA (K) qualification or ACCA finalist status
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in accounts receivable, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial analysis and reporting
  • Working knowledge of hospital billing systems and HMIS platforms
  • Understanding of medical insurance billing processes and revenue cycle management principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities when reviewing account discrepancies
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for dealing with patients, insurers, and internal teams
