About the Role
Powerstar Supermarket is recruiting an Accounts Clerk for a full-time position based in Kenya. You will work in a branch-level accounting function, supporting POS reconciliation, vendor payments, inventory tracking, and statutory filing within a structured FMCG retail environment.
The Accounts Clerk at Powerstar Supermarket is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring all cash handling meets regulatory standards. This is not a back-office role—you will interact regularly with store staff, suppliers, and management, and your accuracy directly impacts the branch’s financial health and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile point-of-sale collections against system-generated reports on a daily basis and investigate any cashier shortages or overages promptly.
- Process supplier invoices in high volume across FMCG and fresh produce categories, then reconcile vendor statements to ensure timely payment and dispute resolution.
- Support periodic stock-take exercises and conduct investigations into inventory variances identified during counting exercises.
- Manage petty cash disbursements at branch level and maintain accurate, current records of all transactions.
- Assist in preparing statutory returns required by KRA, NSSF, and NHIF, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines.
- Organize and maintain both physical and digital filing systems to enable quick document retrieval during internal and external audits.
Requirements & Qualifications
- CPA Part II certification as a minimum professional qualification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field (highly desirable).
- Demonstrated experience working in a supermarket, retail chain, or FMCG supply environment.
- Proficiency in retail accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to spot invoice discrepancies and reconciliation errors through keen attention to detail and strong numerical reasoning.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for liaison with suppliers, store staff, and management.
- High integrity and trustworthiness when handling cash, financial data, and sensitive records.
- Capability to prioritize multiple daily tasks and meet strict month-end deadlines under pressure.
