About this role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Audit & Compliance Officer who will be responsible for leading assignments that contribute to ensuring that all Tugende processes are controlled and monitored for quality and compliance. They will perform duties relating to quality audits and control reviews of the business processes and procedures on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Control Framework: 

  • Lead in the implementation of the internal controls & risk management framework and policies.
  • Continuously review and monitor existing systems to improve their effectiveness and increase Tugende’s process maturity levels.
  • Lead in training and enforcing the processes and policies by highlighting inefficiencies, fraud and revenue leakages.

Risk management: 

  • Test the controls set by Tugende’s management for vulnerabilities and give recommendations on how to mitigate against risks.
  • Participate in end user testing of applications, systems and dashboards pointing out inconsistencies or any variations from the business requirements and strategy.
  • On an ongoing basis, advise business process owners on enterprise risk, continually identify new and emerging risks facing the company and maintain an up to date risk profile.

Compliance: 

  • Ensure that the line managers and business process/ control owners are well aware of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and help create a monitoring mechanism to allow adherence to these SOPs.
  • Track and monitor external compliance requirements on a regular basis.

Quality Assurance: 

  • Perform assigned internal quality audits on Tugende processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate the application of internal operational guidelines/ manuals, identify deviations and recommend appropriate changes where necessary.
  • Flag exceptions to the business rules to ensure they are catered for in the process and procedure improvements.

Monitoring & Reporting: 

  • Compile and discuss detailed findings, implications and recommendations for process and system improvements to relevant stakeholders.
  • Regularly check and update if the recommendations have been implemented as per the work plan.
  • Document and report material changes affecting the internal control system to help ensure that the framework is reviewed, maintained and improved appropriately.

Training:

  • Oversee regular training and awareness for the staff on the internal controls process to develop an understanding of the same.

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules and regulations
  • Sound knowledge of Accounting and Finance Principles and Practices
  • Technology Proficient (excel, word, Visio, ability to learn new software)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & Finance or other closely related field.
  • Certified Internal Audit (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or ACCA required.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in auditing, compliance and or investigations.
