Research Associate Responsibilities:

The person in this position will collaborate with the research team, providing technical expertise for study design, data collection, management, and statistical analysis. Additionally, they will work with program and advocacy colleagues to ensure that complex statistical information is understood and effectively utilized in policy and practice. Strong communication skills are essential for presenting complex information in a clear and understandable manner.

Skills and Experience:

  • Possess a postgraduate degree in medical statistics, statistics, epidemiology, or a related field with a significant statistical component, or have equivalent experience.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Training and experience in advanced statistical analytical techniques, particularly survey methods.
  • Previous experience in developing survey tools and managing large datasets.
  • Understanding of the fundamental principles and governance of research.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of effectively communicating complex information to various stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience contributing to scientific outputs, such as peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proficient in statistical languages suitable for data handling and statistical analyses, such as Stata, R, and Python.
  • Familiarity with designing ODK-based data collection systems using platforms like CommCare or similar tools.
  • Willingness to travel for planned visits, up to 5 weeks per year, even in challenging locations, subject to Covid-19 restrictions.

Desirable:

  • Experience in writing research grant applications.
  • Proficiency in French or Portuguese language skills.
