Job purpose:

The Research Assistant will support the Labor Market Assessment by undertaking primary and secondary research on key topics of interest. The role involves data collection, literature reviews and contributing to reports. The Research Assistant will work closely with the EPY team to ensure that the research findings are accurate, comprehensive and actionable.
Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support in the development of quantitative and qualitative tools for data collection
  • Design and maintain databases, data collection forms, error checking methods and related processes for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Oversee the collection, entry, verification, management, analysis and reporting of data.
  • Organize and conduct structured project participant interviews through KIIs and FGDs.
  • Conducting literature searches and producing summaries of the literature to support the delivery of the research project.
  • Participate in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and producing written reports
  • Develop reports and presentations for dissemination to the EPY project stakeholders

Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Social sciences, Development studies or a related field is required.
  • Coursework or specialization in labour economics, public policy, or development economics is highly desirable.
  • Strong academic background in research methods, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Understanding of the Kenyan economic context or labour market dynamics,Skills, Abilities and Personal Qualities
  • Experience of performing quantitative and qualitative research using a range of methodologies including survey design, interviews and focus group facilitation.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to process and synthesize complex datasets.
  • Ability to perform thorough literature searches and produce written reviews
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Swahili is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrate competency in the use of data collection and analysis tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Kenyan labour market trends and the challenges facing the youths is an added advantage.
