Job Purpose: The Critical Care Nurse’s role is to deliver advanced nursing services and patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) at KUTRRH. Additionally, they provide nursing research, training, and advisory services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and appropriate conditions in critical care centers to ensure a conducive environment for patients.
- Ensure the availability of necessary machinery, equipment, and materials for critical care.
- Set up and monitor medical equipment, identifying and reporting malfunctions promptly.
- Receive and admit critically ill patients referred to the critical care centers.
- Provide high-quality nursing care following established standards and hospital policies.
- Deliver specialized nursing services based on patient needs.
- Monitor patient progress, identifying and responding to changes in health status.
- Administer prescribed therapeutic procedures and assess patients’ pain levels or sedation requirements.
- Conduct pulmonary assessments to identify respiratory abnormalities.
- Monitor fluid intake and output to detect potential issues like fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
- Document medical histories, assessment findings, and analysis of monitoring or diagnostic test data.
- Coordinate patient care conferences and contribute to the development of nursing practice protocols.
- Mentor and guide junior nursing staff, interns, and students.
- Provide nursing research and training to students in critical care centers.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Kenya Registered Critical Care Nursing or equivalent.
- Minimum four (4) years of nursing experience, including at least one (1) year in Critical Care Nursing.
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and a valid practicing license as a Critical Care Nurse.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
