Mobile App Role Overview

We are seeking a developer to assist in the creation and testing of a smartphone-delivered climate adaptation and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) intervention for residents of informal settlements in Kenya. This intervention utilizes Ecological Momentary Approaches (EMA), requiring the user to complete EMAs and ecological momentary interventions three times a day at specified occasions.

The developer should have the expertise to build a secure and user-friendly application for both Android and iOS platforms. The application should offer country-specific, gender-sensitive, and research-focused information, generating reports for diverse stakeholders. Prioritizing data anonymization, user feedback, and high interoperability is crucial.

Duties and Responsibilities

Expected Deliverables:

  • Fully functional Android application (with source code).
  • Fully functional iOS application (with source code).
  • Fully functional Web application (with source code).
  • Comprehensive user manual.
  • Initial system administration training.
  • Maintenance and update schedules.

Timeline:

The development phase spans 6 months, from January 2024 to June 2024, with working prototypes expected in the first 3 months.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • 2+ years in application programming interfaces (API), technical support, testing and debugging, leadership skills, web service and application development, and communication.
  • Proven experience as a Mobile and/or Web Application developer with proficiency in Android Studio, Kotlin, JavaScript, Python, and C++ or C#.
  • Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, or Informix.
  • Familiarity with development frameworks (e.g., Django, Node.js, Angular, etc.).
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is an added advantage.

Application Process

Technical Proposal:

Applicants should submit a technical proposal (2 pages maximum) outlining their understanding of the Terms of Reference (TORs) and the methodology to achieve the deliverables. This should include functional requirements, user interface and design, technical requirements (Android, iOS, Web App), integration of third-party services, testing and quality assurance, timeline with milestones, and deployment and ongoing support.

Financial Proposal:

Provide a detailed financial proposal outlining the delivery schedule with a well-structured budget breakdown reflecting a clear understanding of project needs.

Profile:

Include a company profile and resumes of the development individual/team, if applicable, and share samples or links to past successful app projects.
