Kazi Mtaani Returns as Climate Workx – Launching 3rd June 2025
The Government of Kenya has officially relaunched the Kazi Mtaani initiative under a new and enhanced banner – Climate Workx. This revitalized youth employment program is set to begin on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, aiming to provide temporary job opportunities to over 110,000 young people across the country.
About the Climate Workx Program
Climate Workx is designed to tackle youth unemployment while advancing climate resilience and infrastructure development. The program will be implemented under the supervision of KeRRA and KURA engineers, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).
With a dual focus on community service and environmental sustainability, this initiative aligns with Kenya’s long-term strategy to create green jobs, increase tree cover, maintain public infrastructure, and foster national values among the youth.
Key Objectives

Provide short-term employment for Kenyan youth

Promote national values, civic responsibility, and patriotism

Support climate initiatives like tree planting and seedling production

Contribute to road and public infrastructure maintenance

Equip youth with hands-on experience and work discipline
Available Job Roles
The program offers two categories of roles:
1. General Workers
Youth participants will work within their local communities on tasks such as:

Road maintenance (clearing vegetation, unclogging drainage, patching potholes)

Tree planting and nursery work (digging, watering, pest control)

Cleaning public spaces (markets, walkways, informal settlements)

Composting and seedbed preparation

Participating in civic education sessions

Submitting daily reports and maintaining tools
Work Cycle: 10 weekdays per cohort
Pay: KES 500/day (paid via M-Pesa after each cycle)
Location: Assigned tasks within applicants’ home villages
2. Supervisors
Supervisors will oversee field activities and team coordination. Responsibilities include:

Conducting roll calls and briefings

Assigning and monitoring daily tasks

Reporting to government officials and engineers
-
Ensuring safety, discipline, and proper tool usage

Keeping records of attendance, wages, and work progress
Eligibility:

Aged 18–35

Resident of the local community

Preference for former NYS recruits

Basic leadership and reporting skills
Pay: KES 580/day (paid via M-Pesa every 10 days)
Special Features of the Program

Gender Parity: A strict 50:50 male-to-female recruitment ratio

Disability Inclusion: 30% of positions reserved for youth with disabilities

Household Limit: Only one applicant per household to ensure fairness

Local Deployment: All youth will work within their own villages

Civic Engagement: Personal development sessions on off days covering patriotism, health, financial literacy, and climate education
