Job Summary
The Field Enumerator will contribute to collaborative research that transforms maternal and child health outcomes through innovative data science by supporting participant tracing, informed consent, and data collection for the KIPMAT study while adhering to standard operating procedures and ethical regulations. KIPMAT is a study focused on developing and validating Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning – based prediction models for poor maternal, neonatal, and early childhood outcomes at the Kenyan Coast
Responsibilities
- Administer structured questionnaires and study tools to mothers and children during home visits and clinic-based assessments.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of responses in Case Report Forms (CRFs) and electronic data capture systems.
- Support the informed consent and assent process by explaining study procedures to participants in local languages (e.g., Kiswahili, Kigiriama and Mijikenda).
- Ensure participants feel comfortable during interviews and assessments, allowing breaks or withdrawal at any time.
- Assist in locating and scheduling visits with eligible participants.
- Support logistical planning for field activities, including transportation, meal coordination, and participant reimbursements.
- Ensure data collected meets quality standards and is consistent with study protocols.
- Adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and securely handle participant information.
- Work closely with clinicians, assessors, and other fieldworkers to ensure smooth implementation of study activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Requirements
- A minimum of diploma in Public Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, psychology or related course; a background in health sciences is desirable.
Relevant Experience
- At least 1 year working experience in research
- Flexible – able to work extra hours when needed
- Familiarity with neurodevelopmental and mental health assessments is desirable.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local languages (Kigiriama or Mijikenda) is an added advantage.
