About the Role

4G Capital is recruiting a Debt Collections Agent for its Nairobi office. This full-time position sits at the centre of portfolio management and customer recovery, requiring someone who can balance firm collection strategies with respectful, solutions-focused engagement. You’ll report to the collections management team and work across field operations, branch partnerships, and internal stakeholder coordination to recover overdue accounts and protect the quality of the lending portfolio.

4G Capital operates as a fintech lender across Africa, providing unsecured loans to small business owners and entrepreneurs with strict affordability safeguards. The Debt Collections Agent role is essential to ensuring loan recipients stay on track, recover when they fall behind, and ultimately succeed with their businesses. This is an accounting job in Kenya that requires both technical rigour and genuine customer understanding.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned customer accounts to ensure timely recovery of overdue payments and consistently meet daily and monthly collection targets.
• Conduct follow-up on defaulted accounts, investigate customer queries, and develop practical repayment solutions that work for both the customer and the business.
• Monitor delinquent accounts, implement appropriate recovery strategies, and reduce portfolio risk through collaboration with branch teams and the call centre.
• Perform field visits to support debt recovery activities, prepare detailed recovery reports and action plans following each engagement.
• Build working relationships with local administration, community leaders, and security agencies where appropriate to support recovery efforts.
• Maintain accurate collection records and customer documentation; provide regular reports on recovery progress, challenges, and recommendations.
• Ensure all collection activities comply with company policy, regulatory requirements, and ethical collection standards while upholding customer confidentiality.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in a business-related field.
• Mandatory prior experience in debt collection or recovery roles.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations professionally.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with high attention to detail and proven problem-solving ability.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain professionalism under pressure.
• Customer service mindset and proven capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to relocate anywhere within Kenya as the role requires.
• Preferred: experience in financial services, microfinance, or lending sectors; field collections experience; knowledge of credit risk management and portfolio recovery strategies.
