About the Role

Kwale County Government is recruiting 10 Medical Laboratory Technologist III professionals to strengthen laboratory services across the county’s health facilities. This is a full-time position based in Kwale, located on Kenya’s south coast. The role sits at the heart of clinical diagnostics, where your work directly informs patient treatment decisions and supports the county’s healthcare delivery mandate.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist III, you will manage specimen handling, perform diagnostic testing, and ensure quality standards across laboratory operations. You’ll work in a healthcare setting that demands precision, reliability, and a commitment to patient safety. This is a County Government position in Kenya requiring both technical expertise and the ability to function under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Sanitise and maintain laboratory workstations to prevent cross-contamination
• Receive, review, and validate laboratory request forms and submitted specimens for completeness and accuracy
• Brief patients on specimen collection procedures and prepare them for sample extraction
• Register, collect, label, and document specimens according to laboratory protocols
• Conduct microscopic and chemical examination of specimens to identify pathogens and abnormalities
• Perform blood typing and manage blood product distribution to peripheral health facilities
• Prepare microscopy stains and ensure reagent quality for ongoing testing
• Record and dispatch laboratory results to clinical staff for use in patient management decisions
• Store blood products and biological materials in accordance with temperature and safety requirements
• Support quality assurance systems and participate in laboratory improvement initiatives
• Respond to emergency laboratory requests and maintain flexible shift schedules as required
• Deliver care-focused service to both inpatient and outpatient populations

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from an accredited and recognised training institution
• Valid registration certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologist Board (KMLTTB)
• Current practicing license from the KMLTTB
• Certificate in computer application skills from a recognised training provider
• Ability to work rotating shifts and respond to emergency calls when needed
• Strong commitment to patient-centered care for both ward and clinic-based services
