About the Role
Valley Hospital is recruiting a Driver for full-time employment based in Nairobi. The Driver at Valley Hospital will report to the transport supervisor and maintain responsibility for vehicle safety, compliance, and timely service delivery in a healthcare environment where reliability directly affects patient care.
This is a Driving & Logistics position that combines operational transport duties with vehicle stewardship and incident management. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, mechanical awareness, and the ability to respond appropriately in medical emergencies while adhering to hospital protocols and Kenya traffic law.
Key Responsibilities
- Move patients, hospital staff, and medical equipment safely between designated areas within the hospital and external locations as required by operational schedules or emergency demand.
- Provide assistance when loading and unloading patients, equipment, and supplies, handling all items with appropriate care to prevent damage or injury.
- Execute patient pickups and drop-offs according to scheduled timings or in response to urgent medical transport requests.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and during each shift, checking fuel levels, oil condition, brake function, and tire integrity; communicate any mechanical faults or maintenance requirements to the transport supervisor without delay.
- Keep the vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy state at all times, ensuring compliance with current licensing standards and Valley Hospital safety requirements.
- Maintain valid vehicle licensing documentation and report promptly any incidents or accidents to the transport supervisor with accurate information about what occurred.
- Record all transport activities, including mileage, routes, and service dates, in transport logs and related documentation.
- Comply fully with all traffic legislation, hospital safety procedures, and infection control measures; respond appropriately to emergencies or medical transport situations for which training has been provided.
- Operate basic IT and technical equipment as required by the hospital transport system.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Current Kenyan Driving License with appropriate vehicle class qualifications; ambulance operation certification is advantageous.
- Minimum three years of active commercial driving experience.
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the relevant Kenyan authority.
- KCSE Certificate or equivalent educational qualification.
- Demonstrated familiarity with Nairobi roads and the surrounding region.
- Driving record free of serious traffic violations or criminal offenses related to vehicle operation.
- Fluent communication in both English and Kiswahili, spoken and written.
- Physical fitness to handle manual duties and availability to work flexible schedules when operational needs require.
