Qualitative Field Interviewers – CPSE at Flexi-Personnel – Flexi-Personnel Kenya Job Details

  • The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
  • In response to the urgent call for interventions to address the challenges experienced by women while seeking health care after experiencing sexual violence and after pregnancy loss, this study aims to implement and assess the effectiveness of an intervention to improve the quality of post-abortion care and post-rape care in Kilifi County. The multi-disciplinary and multi-level interventions will be co-created with SRH stakeholders in Kenya, and the study will utilize a quasi-experimental study design to evaluate the study objectives, including a baseline and endline survey, and a continuous qualitative process monitoring at the intervention sites. The research aims to generate evidence and learning on interventions that can effectively help improve the delivery and access to quality Post-Rape Care and Post-Abortion Care to inform policy and programming in Kenya and beyond.
  • The study seeks to recruit qualified qualitative field interviewers to support the baseline data collection process in Kilifi County in the months of May and June 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The research assistants will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Identify and recruit participants who meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Obtain and document informed consent from the study participants prior to the interviews.
  • Facilitate in-depth interviews and Key informant interviews with targeted participants, and ensure all interviews are conducted in a neutral, ethical, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Submit all interviews within agreed timelines for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor.
  • Support transcription and translation of interviews.
  • Conduct participant observations at selected health facilities and targeted communities.
  • Take detailed notes during observations and interviews and write observation reports for all the observations conducted daily.
  • Attend field work debriefing meetings.
  • Ensuring safety of all data collection tools and equipment assigned.
  • Any other related activity assigned by the supervisor or project manager during the contract period.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Sociology or related disciplines.
  • Previous experience working in the field of sexual and reproductive health research.
  • Ability to conduct observations and take detailed observation notes.
  • Ability to facilitate interviews in fluent English, Swahili and local languages spoken in Kilifi County.
  • Must be fully available for training and during the entire data collection period.
