
World Concern
- The Project Officer will support World Concern’s ongoing One Village Transformed (OVT) program. This long-term initiative focuses on empowering communities to take full ownership of their development through participatory and sustainable approaches. The role will involve implementing holistic strategies in Disaster Risk Reduction, socio-economic empowerment, village governance, and church engagement, in collaboration with local communities, government bodies, and partner organizations. The goal is to build self-reliant communities capable of driving their own growth and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Mobilization & Capacity Building: Facilitate engagement with communities to promote ownership of their development processes. Support the formation of village leadership teams and assist in the development and review of 5-year strategic plans. Use approved curricula to strengthen community-based institutions and enhance local capacity.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Actively advocate for OVT communities by building strong partnerships with government offices, churches, local leaders, and other development actors.
- Represent World Concern in local forums while upholding organizational values.
- Economic Empowerment: Lead livelihoods and business development initiatives by identifying investment opportunities, supporting existing businesses, forming business groups, and offering coaching and mentoring. Support socio-economic profiling and create an
- enabling environment for economic growth.
- Program Implementation & Monitoring: Execute ongoing OVT activities while introducing the program to new villages. Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plans to track progress and assess key indicators. Provide timely, high-quality reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and participate in regular program review meetings.
- Spiritual Integration: Promote Christian values by integrating spiritual development and discipleship opportunities in program delivery. Build and maintain partnerships with local
- churches and the World Concern communications department to enhance spiritual outreach.
- Documentation & Reporting: Develop case studies, capture lessons learned, and contribute to proposal development. Maintain accurate documentation and prepare detailed work schedules aligned with project goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Microfinance or Entrepreneurship, or relevant tertiary qualification in Cooperative or Development studies, and/or experience in related fields.
- Knowledge and experience in WASH projects.
- At least 3 years of progressive programming experience.
- Ability to promote empowering and developmental models in rural communities.
- Experience in participatory community engagement techniques such as Participatory rural
- Appraisal (PRA/PLA) and appreciative inquiry.
- Fluency in writen and spoken English and Swahili required.
- Mature Christian commited to serving Jesus Christ.
Working Environment and Conditions
- Basic office environment with periodic disruption of power, water, internet etc.
- Based in Narok County
- Working and living in a cross-cultural, sometimes unstable or insecure environment.
- Periodic travel to more remote field locations.
- Apolitical, gender sensitive office setting.
- Limited access to medical facilities. Health and hygiene standards are otien poor.
- Drug free environment including alcohol and tobacco.
