The Project Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, reporting the progress of the project and designing new projects and programs to complement the Regreening project. He/she will be expected to develop and maintain a good relationship with the project participants, ChildFund Implementing partners in the project areas, Government Departments at the National and County level and all the stakeholders to deliver on his/her mandate. The position too entails direct interaction with project participants and upholding high standards of humanitarian work and safeguarding principles.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Management

  • Oversee the implementation of the Regreening Africa Phase II project in Kiambu, Makueni and Kajiado counties including project start-up and close-out workshops.
  • Work with the respective implementing partners in community mobilization and establishment of a strong integration with the Sponsorship program.
  • Develop and actualize the project Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) with clear cash flow to ensure timely delivery and achievement of the project objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and regular (Monthly and Quarterly) review of the project and other related Country Annual Operation Plans.
  • Closely work with other members of the ChildFund program and Local Partner program teams to achieve the objectives for the Livelihood, Humanitarian and Environmental Sustainability Sectors.
  • Promote environmental conservation, Regeneration and restoration through creation of sustainable green jobs and Livelihoods for youth and Women.
  • Work with regreening stakeholders to support the planting and nurturing of one million high-value trees across targeted communities and educational institutions.
  • Build the capacity of Children, Youth and Regreening Movement as Champions on Sustainable Environmental Conservation and Entrepreneurship.
  • Support the strengthening of Carbon Market linkages for Smallholder farmers and youths and while connecting them to carbon offset programs, enabling financial benefits from climate-friendly practices.
  • Support establishment and/or strengthening of school-based Aflatoun clubs to foster intergenerational climate leadership, ensuring environmental stewardship is passed on to future generations.
  • Ensure that the establishment and maintenance of standard commercial Agro-forestry and fruit tree nurseries, kitchen gardens in identified sites.
  • Deliver financial literacy training and market linkages to project participants for sustainable development.
  • Provide technical & logistical support for the project’s implementation and ensure that the activities are implemented on time and according to the project design as provided in the proposal.

Resource Mobilization and Business Development

  • Work closely with the Technical Specialist and Grants Acquisition and Management (GAAM) team in the design and formulation of new project proposals and concept notes for resource mobilization.
  • Establish and maintain new relationships with strategic partners for joint project designs and resource mobilization leveraging on the project.
  • Assist in planning, organizing donor and VIP missions to the project sites.

Knowledge Management & Learning

  • Participate in and provide technical support in the development of Project related TOR, data tools review for assessments, evaluations, baseline and other related studies.
  • Take lead in Project Monitoring, Surveys, evaluation and documentation of impact stories.
  • Participate in project planning, periodic reviews, learning fora and evaluation meetings
  • Document project monitoring visit findings and the implementation status of the recommendations to the CO technical Specialists.
  • Continuously identify and document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from the project.
  • Develop high quality results-based project reports (Monthly, quarterly, annually and end of project reports) with clear data on the progress, successes, challenges, and impact of the project activities as well as other reports such as handover notes, field visit reports.
  • Ensure that the project related documents are regularly updated on the document management systems such as SharePoint.
  • Ensure timely submission of consolidated donor reports to the line Manager for review and sharing with the donor (Dow).
  • Organize and facilitate regular learning and sharing sessions with stakeholders on FSL and CCA programs.

Project Coordination and Representation

  • Participate in the related sector Forums, networks and other coordination activities through active reporting and communication various technical focal points.
  • Represent and promote ChildFund Kenya in related events with relevant stakeholders, including national and county Governments, donors and NGO partners at the county level.
  • Liaise with local authorities, partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration during project delivery.
  • Assist in conducting regular meetings with local administration, stakeholders, including National & County Governments and implementation partners on issues relevant to the Regreening Africa Project.
  • Represent the organization in different fora in the assigned Sub-County.

Child Safeguarding:

  • Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Ensure accountability and transparency in the delivery of the project by observing compliance standards and ensuring robust complaint and feedback channels by the project participants and partners.
  • Integrate and Mainstream Gender, Child protection and safeguarding measures into the project.
  • Any other duties as allocated by the supervisor.

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Environmental Science, Rural or Community Development, Project Management or related field
  • Certification in Project Management such as PMP, CAPM would be added advantage
  • At least 3 years of experience in agroforestry, land restoration, climate change adaptation or rural development projects
