Kenya Internship Program – Investment Advisory
The role will be for an initial three-month period, with the potential to extend this for another three months subject to the intern’s performance.
Responsibilities
- Mandate support: Contribute to active client engagements across CrossBoundary Advisory workstreams
- Research and analysis: Conduct market assessments covering macroeconomic and sector-level dynamics
- Financial modelling: Support the development of financial models under the guidance of senior team members
- Client materials: Help prepare client-facing documents including presentations and reports
- Events and networking: Help organise stakeholder engagement events

Internship Program – Minigrid Innovations Lab
Responsibilities
- Clean, structure, and analyze large datasets (e.g., smart meter data, site-level operational data, revenue data exports)
- Develop Python scripts to automate recurring data cleaning and aggregation workflows
- Conduct time-series analysis to assess site performance (e.g., consumption growth, uptime, load profiles, revenue trends)
- Support cross-site performance comparisons and prototype impact assessments
- Identify anomalies, trends, and patterns in operational data
- Develop visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings clearly
- Support the preparation of data-driven insights for donor reports, internal memos, and sector publications
- Contribute to strengthening the Lab’s internal data infrastructure and analytical tools
Required Technical Skills:
- Python (Intermediate to Advanced)
- Strong experience with Pandas (data cleaning, merging, grouping, aggregations)
- Experience with NumPy (numerical computations and array operations)
- Experience handling and analyzing large CSV datasets
- Experience conducting time-series data analysis (resampling, rolling averages, trend analysis)

Internship Program – Communications/Data Analytics
The Communications Intern will focus on improving the department’s ability to track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) across a diverse communications portfolio. The role is ideal for candidates with a solid data science background, experience with tools like PowerBI, and interest in applying their skills to the marketing and communications function.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine PowerBI dashboards to track and visualize KPIs for social media performance, website analytics, and email campaigns
- Support the Communications team in setting up and optimizing workflows for real-time performance monitoring
- Conduct data analysis to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for improving communication strategies
- Assist in designing templates and frameworks for presenting analytics and performance insights to stakeholders
- Collaborate with the team to integrate business intelligence insights into communications planning and decision-making
- Document processes, systems, and workflows to ensure sustainability
- Support internal quality control and review processes
- Compile web and social media analytics reports
- Present and update PowerPoint slides
Who You Are
- Actively enrolled in or recently completed a university or similar educational program in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related technical field
- Interest in leveraging data to enhance communications strategies and decision-making
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in PowerBI, Microsoft Excel, and other data visualization or business intelligence tools
- Familiarity with social media analytics platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram), website analytics tools (Google Analytics), and email marketing software (ActiveCampaign) is an advantage

Internship Program – Communications
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and brainstorm opportunities related to communications and branding
- Support adapting messages from CrossBoundary’s investment advisory and investment management teams into engaging social media and marketing material
- Plan, write, and edit text and multimedia content for blog articles, web pages, social media, video and podcast scripts, printed/promotional material, and more
- Assist in maintaining and improving CrossBoundary websites
- Support internal quality control and review processes
- Help update media contact lists
- Compile web and social media analytics reports
- Present and update PowerPoint slides
Who You Are
- Actively enrolled in or recently completed a university or similar educational program in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies, International Development, or a related field
- Interest in international finance and development, especially related to communication and branding
- A certificate and/or training in communications management is preferred. Specific knowledge of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, HubSpot, Google Analytics) is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and other communications and social media software

Internship Program – CBE Operations
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Operations Intern to join our CrossBoundary Energy Operations team. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting daily operations such as maintaining and redesigning internal systems and platforms, managing day to day operations in Nairobi, development and accreditation of our Quality Management System and playing a key role our redesign of our internal project processes. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone eager to gain real-world operational experience in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the Data Operations team in maintaining up-to-date information for all CBE contacts, accounts and leads (using Microsoft Dynamics)
- Trialling new AI tools with the IT team including bots and agents for use by internal team and on CBE sites
- Support the daily operations in the Nairobi office including quality management of the facilities.
- Managing backstage reorganisation of CBE sharepoint and design of CBE intranet including document management system, file naming protocol and archiving process
- Working with People Team to develop CBE induction process covering training and office specific orientation
- Working with People Team to develop site and/or project specific protocols and guidance.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to update key documents such as policies and employee handbook.
Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory)
- Experience with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Excel).
- Experience with project management software (e.g. Microsoft Projects) are desirable
