DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Farm Operations:
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the farm, including planting, cultivation, and harvesting of crops.
- Ensure that crop production processes meet quality standards and are in line with best agricultural practices.
- Monitor and manage irrigation, fertilization, and pest control programs to maximize crop yields and maintain soil fertility.
Soil Health and Crop Quality:
- Implement sustainable soil management practices to improve soil health, prevent erosion, and enhance nutrient cycling.
- Work closely with agronomists or soil specialists to monitor soil quality and address any deficiencies.
- Ensure crops are protected from diseases, pests, and environmental stress through integrated pest management (IPM) and crop rotation.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff, ensuring they are knowledgeable about crop production techniques and safety standards.
- Schedule and manage labor to ensure efficient operations, including planting and harvest schedules.
- Foster a positive working environment that promotes teamwork and continuous development.
Resource and Inventory Management:
- Manage farm supplies, including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Monitor farm budgets and expenses to achieve cost-effective operations.
- Implement sustainable practices and manage waste to minimize the environmental impact of farm operations.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all farming activities comply with local agricultural, environmental, and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for regulatory compliance and audits.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the farm.
Production and Quality Control:
- Track crop yields and production metrics, ensuring that output meets the targets and quality standards set by the company.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may affect production levels, including equipment malfunctions or pest outbreaks.
- Stay updated on new farming technologies and innovations that can improve productivity and sustainability.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and submit regular reports on farm operations, including production levels, financial performance, and crop health.
- Communicate with the Operations Manager/Owner and other stakeholders about farm performance and any issues that may arise.
- Represent the farm at industry events, networking to keep the farm at the forefront of agricultural innovations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education: A degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience managing crop production operations.
- Preferably Male
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of crop management practices, including irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and soil management.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with modern farming equipment and technology, including irrigation systems and crop management software.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions quickly.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to managing crop health, farm operations, and safety procedures.
