Job Summary
- The Accounting Officer will be responsible for managing the financial activities of the organization, including financial analysis and planning, financial projections, accounting operations and reporting, budgeting and coordinating and supporting both internal and external audits. S/he establishes or improves upon the organization’s financial policies and procedures. The accountant is responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance of the financial functions of the organization. Additionally, the Accounting Officer provides guidance to SOTENI staff, SOTENI Board members, prepares growth plans and oversees grants management, supports Board relations through clear communication of financial reporting and analysis and is the primary interface with external parties on financial matters, including bank relations, customer invoices and project reporting.Desired Skills & Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- Experience in grant management and donor reporting is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience in conducting audits and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks
- Familiarity with financial management systems and tools.
- Knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and local financial regulations.
Communication Skills:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff clearly and effectively.
Ethical Standards:
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct in financial management.
- Commitment to transparency, accountability, and compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
