Purpose of the Role
- The Plant Mechanic will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and overall upkeep of company trucks, forklifts, and wheel loaders to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and reduced equipment downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, diagnostic tests, and preventive maintenance on trucks, forklifts, and wheel loaders to identify faults and ensure operational readiness.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and panel-beating issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Replace worn-out or defective parts and ensure proper fitting and functionality.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, including spare parts usage and service history.
- Provide detailed reports on equipment condition, repair activities, and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards within the workshop.
- Coordinate with other mechanics, technicians, and departments to prioritize repair and maintenance tasks.
- Lead and guide the workshop team in the absence of the workshop supervisor, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
- Support in training new technicians on advanced repair techniques and safe workshop practices.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to manage spare parts, assess vendor quality, and maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Continuously improve workshop standards and recommend innovations to enhance equipment uptime and reliability.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Technical certification or diploma in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering.
- Trade Test I, II, or III in Automotive Mechanics, Electrical, or Panel Beating.
- Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with specialization in trucks, forklifts, or heavy equipment.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals and specifications.
- Understanding of automotive systems, mechanical dynamics, and spare parts management.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and effective communication
