About the Role
The International Rescue Committee is recruiting a Data Analytics Engineer for a full-time position based in Nairobi. This role sits at the centre of the organisation’s data infrastructure, responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining analytics systems that enable data-driven decision-making across departments. You will build scalable data pipelines, create analytics-ready datasets, and support reporting solutions on the Microsoft Power Platform that serve operational and strategic needs.
As a Data Analytics Engineer at International Rescue Committee, you will translate business requirements into structured data models and analytical outputs. Working across technical and non-technical teams, you will ensure data quality, pipeline reliability, and the effective deployment of analytics through Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate. This position requires hands-on expertise in SQL, Python, ETL/ELT workflows, and data warehouse design.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain analytics-ready datasets and data models that support dashboards, reporting, and advanced analytics across the organisation.
- Develop and optimise data transformation logic to deliver performant and reliable analytical outputs for end users.
- Create curated analytics layers that enable consistent, reusable insights and reduce duplication of effort across teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues, performance bottlenecks, and pipeline failures that impact analytics delivery.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into datasets, metrics, and visualisations.
- Enable and support analytics-driven solutions built using Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate, including design of data integrations for efficient consumption.
- Write and maintain SQL-based data transformations and automated data quality tests to safeguard data integrity.
- Document analytics solutions, datasets, and integration patterns to support team knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related STEM field, or equivalent professional experience and certifications.
- 3–5 years of experience in data analytics engineering, analytics development, or supporting enterprise analytics solutions.
- Advanced SQL proficiency, including CTEs, window functions, complex joins, and query performance optimisation.
- Proficiency in Python for data manipulation, pipeline scripting, and automation.
- Hands-on experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and star or snowflake schema design patterns.
- Practical experience with Power BI and integrating analytics datasets into Power Apps and Power Automate solutions.
- Experience with Git version control for collaborative development and code management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure Entra ID for secure access to analytics and Power Platform solutions.
- Professional working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Experience
- Microsoft certifications such as Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate.
- Advanced experience designing and optimising Power BI datasets and enterprise reporting models.
- Working knowledge of Azure data services and cloud-based analytics platforms.
- Experience implementing data security, access controls, and governance best practices.
- Familiarity with DevOps or structured release management for analytics solutions.
