About the Role
Fin Kenya is looking for a Legal Assistant to strengthen its legal and compliance operations in Nairobi. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyse contracts, Memoranda of Understanding, and other binding agreements to verify legal compliance and alignment with company policy.
- Build and oversee a systematic contract management process, including tracking renewal dates and flagging obligations requiring attention.
- Track active litigation and court proceedings; communicate with external legal counsel and service providers to gather updates and case developments.
- Compile case summaries, legal reports, and updates for management review and decision-making support.
- Handle the filing and assembly of legal documents required for court submissions and dispute resolution.
- Maintain statutory registers, compliance records, and regulatory documentation in line with applicable legislation.
- Monitor changes in Kenyan law and regulations that may affect Fin Kenya’s operations, and flag risks to senior management within set timelines.
- Research legal questions on employment, commercial, contractual, and operational issues; provide written opinions to guide management decisions.
- Review company policies and internal procedures to ensure they align with current legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support board and committee activities by preparing governance documents, maintaining records, and assisting with statutory filings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) from an accredited Kenyan or internationally recognised institution.
- Diploma in Law from the Advocates Training Programme (an asset, not mandatory).
- Minimum three years of work experience in a legal, corporate, or compliance role.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan commercial law, employment law, corporate governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to draft legal documents, review contracts, and conduct legal research independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment in handling sensitive legal matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
