Are you an African national with ambitions to study at one of the UK’s top universities? The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships 2026/2027 are now open, offering full funding for African students to pursue postgraduate studies at SOAS University of London.
Seven scholarships are available — six for taught Master’s programmes and one for a research (MPhil/PhD) degree — covering tuition fees, living stipends, and exclusive networking opportunities.

The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships are designed to nurture the next generation of African leaders and experts in sustainable development. Beyond funding your studies, the programme builds a long-term collaboration network between scholars and Hyundai Motor Group — supporting your career across the African continent long after graduation.
Scholarship Benefits
For Master’s Students:
- Full tuition fees paid (up to £27,730 for 2026/27)
- Any balance after tuition fees is paid as a living stipend
- Eligibility to apply for the Junior Internship Program at SOAS
For PhD Students:
- Full tuition fees covered for 3 years of full-time study, plus writing-up fees in year 4
- Annual stipend of £22,780, paid in termly instalments
All Scholars Receive:
- Invitations to networking events and seminars hosted by Hyundai Motor Group
- Lifetime access to the Hyundai Motor Group Scholars alumni network
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an African national ordinarily resident in Africa
- Be applying as an international fee-paying student
- Be enrolling in a new programme starting in 2026/27 (not a continuing student)
- For Master’s: Hold (or expect to receive) the international equivalent of a first-class honours degree from a UK university. Applicants with a 2:1 may apply but will not be given preference.
- For MPhil/PhD: Hold (or expect to receive) the international equivalent of a master’s degree with distinction from a UK university. Applicants with a merit may apply but will not be given preference.
- Have applied to SOAS (an offer is not required at the scholarship deadline, but an unconditional offer must be in place before the selection panel meets)
- Meet the English language requirements of your SOAS offer
Note: This scholarship does not cover pre-sessional English courses.
Eligible Programmes
All full-time one-year Master’s programmes and full-time MPhil/PhD research programmes beginning in the 2026/27 academic year are eligible.
Applicants to programmes in the following colleges are particularly encouraged to apply:
- College of Development Studies, Economics and Finance
- College of Law, Anthropology and Politics
Part-time courses and two-year Master’s programmes are not eligible.

Step 1 – Apply to Your Programme at SOAS
- For a taught Master’s: visit the SOAS Taught Masters Applications page
- For an MPhil/PhD: visit the SOAS Doctoral School page
Step 2 – Apply for the Scholarship
- Log into the SOAS Admissions Portal (you need a course application to access it)
- Submit your scholarship application by 12 noon UK time on 25 April 2026
